Deanna Hylton Memorial Garden Fund
In Memoriam Farewell, Deanna Hylton Deanna Lynn Hylton died on Sunday
June 24, 2007 at her home in Brown County, after an eighteen-month battle with
multiple myeloma. She was 49 years
old. Ms. Hylton was employed at the
T.C. Steele State Historic Site as a Master Gardener. The results of her hard work and enthusiasm for the historic
garden restoration project were enjoyed by thousands of historic site
visitors. Ms. Hylton was born May 18, 1958, to Marie and Benjamin Hylton. She grew up in Washington State, and was the
salutatorian of Yelm High School Class of 1976. She became a sailor and sailed extensively throughout the Bahamas
and Caribbean. She ultimately sailed a
small wooden sloop from Florida through the Panama Canal to Hawaii, and back to
Washington State. She lived aboard in
Florida, the Virgin Islands and Washington.
After moving ashore, she ventured
inland, where she fell in love with Mark Cagle and Brown County. Her passion became gardening, and she
created a refuge of flowers in her backyard.
She enjoyed exploring the region’s natural areas. Hiking, boating and
birding were her favorite pastimes. She
loved all critters, great and small.
Her creativity was expressed in cooking and cartooning, and—as all who
knew her would agree—in her enthusiastic approach to life. Survivors include her partner
Mark Cagle, identical twin sister Denise, mother Marie Haakenson, sister Peg
Marconi, “Maurice,” and a multitude of other family members, friends and
co-workers. She will be sorely missed
by all. Deanna Hylton Memorial Garden Fund
