Tours
Guided tours of historic site buildings are available from early spring
through late fall.
Hours:Tuesday-Saturday,
9 a.m. - 5 p.m.;
Sunday, 1-5 p.m.
We are closed on Mondays
Now Open Year Round

Building tour program fee
Standard admission:
$3.50 for adults,
$3 for seniors 65 and older,
$2 for children
12 and under.
Group tour: $3 for adults
$1.50 for children
School groups on field trips: $1/person

Special discounts:
--Friends of T.C. Steele members free of charge, and 10% museum shop discount
--National Trust for Historic Preservation members $3 for adults, $1.50 for children, and 10% museum shop discount

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

 

Collections Assistant Responsibilites:

 

Assist site staff with monitoring and caring for historic site artifacts displayed and stored at the site,
including the following:

  • Assist with monthly artifact inventory;
  • Help organize storage areas;
  • Cleaning of artifacts;
  • Assist with Integrated Pest Management procedures.
  • Assist with updating of computerized inventory records.


 Gardening Assistant Responsibilities

  • Assist site staff members in restoring and maintaining historic gardens, including the following:
  • Digging and preparing planting beds;
  • Mulching new and established planting areas;
  • Planting flowering annual plants;
  • Dividing and transplanting perennial plants and shrubs;
  • Pruning shrubs and small trees;
  • Keeping garden beds and stone walkways free of weeds;
  • Maintaining lily ponds.


Maintenance Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Assist staff with maintenance of gardens, trails and exterior areas including mowing,weeding and mulching;
  • Assist with preventative maintenance of historic site structures,including cleaning, painting, minor carpentry repairs, seasonal maintenance, etc.
  • Assist with restoration and improvement projects.


Docent / Tour Guide Responsibilities

  • Assist site staff members in interpreting historic site and history significance through guided tours, hikes and special programs;
  • Assist in preparing and presenting school tour programs and activities;
  • Assist in leading group tours of buildings and grounds;
  • Assist in stationed interpretation of buildings during special events;
  • Help man gift shop during group tours and special events.


Training will be provided by historic site staff,
with possible opportunities to attend outside workshops.
